Pulses import at 27.48 lakh tonnes in April-October

Pulses Import

For meeting the local demand from April-October this fiscal India’s import of pulses was at 27.48 lakh tones. The Minister of state for Food and Consumer affairs C R Chaudhary wrote to Lok Sabha that by private and public sector the total pulse by import is 2748473 tonnes.

In the last fiscal year, India had imported 57.97 lakh tonnes of pulses, said by the minister. The creation of buffer stock of up to 20 lakh tonnes of pulses through imports and domestic procurement has approved by the government, he also wrote this. If the prevailing market price is above minimum support price (MSP) and at MSP if the market price is below MSP, pulses for the buffer are procured at market price.

Through the MMTC and STC, the government has contracts to import 4.06 lakh tonnes of pulses. As per Chaudhary, till now 81,985 tonnes have come in the country.

in last crop year, the bad monsoon led to a fall in pulse production. 16.5 million tonnes were the production of last year. The government anticipates 20.75 million tonnes of pulses to be grown in the country this year due to good rains. The Rabi year outcome is being estimated as 13.5 thousand million tonnes and for the Kharif year that has just got over the development is being measured to be 8.7 thousand million tonnes.
